If you live in a seasonal climate like I do, the harsh winter weather conditions can really take a toll on your skin! Especially if you are a person with combination skin, you may not be able to use the same foundation year round. Therefore, in the winter its really important to make sure you’re using a foundation formulated for dryer skin types so your skin won’t look flakey or cracked.
I’d recommend the following foundations for winter use:
1. Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse
This cream to powder foundation is very moisturizing and works best on normal to dry skin types. This foundation is very affordable at about $10 from drugstores, and very easy to apply with a flat top synthetic kabuki!
2. Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation
This liquid foundation isn’t formulated for a particular for any particular skin type, but in my experience it works best for a normal to dry skin type. In the summer when my face is more oily, this foundation doesn’t work well for me at all, but in the winter- this foundation produces a very natural radiant glow. The Lasting Finish foundation is great because its super cheap at about $7, has excellent coverage and is very easy to blend.
3. Clinique Superbalanced Liquid Makeup
This foundation is best for those with combination skin. If you have combination dry to combination oily the superbalanced is a great pick for you! This liquid foundation works to ‘balance’ the skin- absorbing oil where needed and moisturizing where needed.
4. NARS Sheer Glow
This higher end foundation is medium coverage and provides a dewy radiant glow. Formulated for dry skin types, I would recommend this product to someone with dry skin looking to fight dullness. At $42.00, you may want to try a sample of this one before purchasing. Warning: this one is very difficult to color match!
5. Neutrogena Healthy Skin
Looking for a drug store alternative to NARS Sheer Glow? Check out Neutrogena Healthy Skin ! This makeup is extremely similar to NARS Sheer Glow except that it provides slightly less coverage. Very easy to blend, this makeup contains antioxidants that fight aging and is also fairly moisturizing.
6. Lancome Teint Miracle
This lightweight, light reflective foundation provides medium coverage. The foundation contains rose extract which will keep your skin moisturized all day long. Great for someone looking for less coverage for a very natural “no foundation” look.
7. Clinique Supermoisture Foundation
Clinique’s Supermoisture foundation is the perfect product for someone with dry to very dry skin. If your skin is dry year round and especially dry in the winter, this foundation is for you! Extremely thick and moisturizing this foundation provides medium for a full coverage dewy look. Warning: stay away normal to oily skin types! This foundation didn’t work well for my skin, but I’m sure if would be amazing for someone with dry to very dry skin.
